Suburban sprawl making wildfires more frequent, frightening, damaging, deadly

While the nation is still trying to process the fact that 19 firefighters at once lost their lives battling a wildfire north of Phoenix, Arizona, there’s more and more talk about the role  climate change is playing in the scary fires of the past few years. This week, Grist explains how development into the “WUI”–wildland-urban interface–is not only making fires more damaging and deadly,  but is likely a contributor at the root of the climate shift that has made fires more frequent and more frightening.
