(December 20, 2011) The Adirondack mountain town of Saranac Lake didn’t want a Walmart, and they also didn’t want to drive 50 miles for staple goods such as clothing. Inspired by a town in Wyoming that had even greater distances to trek to buy socks and underwear, the people of Saranac Lake came together to build a community-owned store.
