In many New York communities, adequate and reliable public transit systems are an essential component of economic viability, environmental protection, and social equity.

Why Support Public Transit?

• It provides transportation equity for those who depend on public transit;
• It decreases transportation’s impact on the environment and reduces dependence on foreign oil;
• It spurs economic development and supports jobs;
• It promotes smart growth and stronger city centers.

Transit, an option for some, is a way to shop, recreate, attend school, see a doctor or get to work without using a car.  For others, those who are transit dependent, the pursuit of life, liberty or happiness without public transit is strictly limited. While public transit helps ensure adequate access and full economic participation for many New Yorkers, it notably also helps advance American energy independence, protects public health and strengthens our sustainable communities.
