(January 8, 2012) Governor Cuomo will be directing $100 million in state and federal infrastructure funds to a new Interstate 390 interchange that will improve access to the University of Rochester, which has surpassed Kodak as the region’s largest employer. Having just hired its 20,000th employee, the University is a hard-charging economic driver. But with more employees come more cars, and more congestion in the University area. The I-390 interchange has been a priority of the University, City, County, and metropolitan transportation planning organization, and now the resources are coming to make it happen. There have been many proclamations about how important the interchange is to the University and regional economy, but many of the effects of this huge project remain to be seen.
