Bronx seeking hotel developer for site of failed parking structures near Yankee Stadium

The Bronx Parking Development Company took 21 acres of borough parkland and $237 million in bonds to construct parking garages deemed needed for the new Yankee Stadium. Now, with the lots less than 60% full on home game days and huge revenue shortfalls, the borough’s leaders are pushing a plan to have the parking sites developed into a hotel.

Reasons for the parking structures’ failure? For one, game goers are using the new Metro North line to the Stadium, routed expressly to reduce the number of cars in the stadium area.
